Noivion is developing industrial solutions for the deposition of functional coatings using high quality thin films. The company has a patent for a new PVD process named Ionized Jet Deposition (IJD) that makes it possible to create functional coatings at lower cost with respect to solutions in use in industry today.  The company plans to become a supplier of technologies, components, and turnkey systems based on its innovative proprietary solution. It will also offer consulting on the development of innovative processes and materials.

Thin films are surface coatings that range from just a few nanometers thick (millionths of a mm) to a few microns (thousandths of mm). They are used in a number of high tech sectors including electronics, optics, and mechanics, where they provide functional improvements and changes to functions of components and surfaces. IJD can produce coatings made of  virtually any kind of inorganic material. The most promising applications of IJD  include:

• Transparent conducting films for using in photovoltaics, electronics, and video displays.
• Semiconducting films for use in thin-film photovoltaics
• Biocompatible films that improve prostheses and implants
• Films with high barrier properties and tribologic properties for mechanics and protective coatings

With IJD it is possible to substitute conventional techniques such as evaporation or sputtering in a large number of industrial sectors, as well as to extend the use of thin films to new sectors where cost and other limitations of conventional methods have hampered its use.
