The European pioneers of Cloud Compunting meeting at Progetto Manifattura
29 Feb 2012 - 02 Mar 2012

Thirty researchers from Italy, Spain, Greece, Sweden, Israel, UK are meeting at Progetto Manifattura to share ideas on Europe’s future in Cloud Computing. The initiative (Feb 29 to Mar 2) is part of a European research project called VENUS-C with 4.5 million euros in funding from the European Commission.

Two partners from Trentino province are in the 14 partner consortium, and both are located on Manifattura premises: COSBI and Green Prefab Italia srl which is located in the Green House incubation space. Green Prefab, in fact, is a VENUS-C spinoff.

“When we talk about Cloud computing, we’re talking about an emerging technology that is quickly revolutionizing the world of scientific computing and the way we access Internet services,” says Furio Barzon, founder of Green Prefab. “Green Prefab works in the area of green building, producing Web applications that can manage production and use of intelligent prefabricated buildings. With Cloud Computing we can make engineering simulations that were unthinkable a few years ago. This means we can be extremely precise about costs and energy performance of a building throughout its lifecycle. It’s a huge potential savings in terms of money and the environment.
